Group work!

Of all the things I find annoying in university, group work is the one that takes the crown. Now I have probably made a prospective employer frown after reading the first sentence; however, there is a reason I say this.

Every year, in my course, we have some form of group work; both in business and law, which adds on to our grades for the year.  Now, I don’t mind working with other people; however, for some reason, I always manage to find myself put in a group of lazy, uninterested students, who leave me to do everything by myself. I try my best to get them involved but even when they do, the work they produce is not even worth submitting.

I am ranting because I recently completed some complicated group work all by myself and my group members had the audacity to ask me what the results (which were online and which we all had access to) were and to help them with their INDIVIDUAL essays. I was so mad; and of course I said no. * sigh * I really hope in the real world, when I get a job that relates to my degree, I won’t be stuck with such people. Anyway, I know I am not the only one who has had this experience…I’ve got a couple of friends who complain about their groups too. Ah! Such is life, and after ranting, we have got to move on and find other ways to make life better. I hope you out there are not found too often in such groups; and if you are one of those that make group work hard for others, that face down there is for you.

...AND JUST LIKE THAT, JANUARY IS GONE!

Hello once again!

January has gone by really quickly, hasn't it? Wow...I can remember New Years day like it was yesterday. This goes to show that very very soon, it will be May and I will be writing my final exams, ready to graduate! Whoop Whoop!

I am a little scared though, to be honest. It has been three academic years already and my future awaits. I hope I finish it well. Fingers crossed! It has been a good couple of weeks for me so far this year...nothing majorly disappointing has happened and I am surviving in my lessons, though I am finding Company Law a bit tough...I applied to two universities to do the LLM course I talked about in my last post; however, I am yet to hear from them....I am not too sure if I will get in though, as most universities want LLB students for that particular course (I do the BA H Law and Business)...but we will see what happens.

Talking about the weather, it has actually been quite nice this week...it stopped snowing, the sun came out sometimes and it has become a little warmer....but knowing the London weather, it is probably going to change back to negatives at some random time. Lol I don't trust London weather.

Yesterday was quite nice though, I had a long day at uni (I usually do not look forward to Thursdays, because they are my longest uni days); but my friends and I managed to have a good time yesterday. Lectures seemed more interesting than usual and in between lectures, we had a lot of fun having Shisha, eating and doing a "photoshoot". It was good. Hehe. I guess I can try to find ways to make my Thursdays more interesting then! Anyway, I will be off now, as I have some work to complete (I am not even going to complain about the workload anymore) and so until the next post, it's bye!

Doubts...

Hello everyone! Okay before I go into the reason for the title, I want to wish everyone a late HAPPY NEW YEAR! Whoop! Whoop!! Entering the new year was pretty cool for me...I went to London Bridge to see the fireworks with a friend. It was not a very good spot for the fireworks but that (and the strawberries and chocolate I had) beat staying at home while everyone else was out. Here’s a picture of us and the little fireworks we saw :D

And here’s a better picture of the fireworks I got from a friend who was in a better place. Nice!

Anyway....after all the new year’s excitement was over, I started thinking about life after my undergraduate degree. The plan was to do a short course of interior decoration during the summer and then the GDL in September (Oh I have got another conditional offer :D hehe).

However, I am suddenly not sure if I want to do the GDL anymore. I know I want to end up being a solicitor...Law is what I want to do...but after getting my BA H in Law and Business degree and doing the GDL, I do not get a Law degree. The GDL only allows me to do the Legal Practise Course...and I want a Law degree. So I have been advised to do some research into an LLM course, which I am currently doing...we will see where that goes.

I am not scratching the GDL off my list though...I am just looking at other options. Wish me luck!!

Well, so far, 2013 has been quite good to me. We have been back in uni for a week and I survived hehe...everything has been smooth so far. Wishing everyone else luck in whatever decisions you are taking, especially the final years who are thinking about next steps!

Until the next post, its bye.

There is a piece of good news in my inbox!

Sooo....I have got my first offer of a place for my Graduate Diploma in Law course!!
Whoop! Whoop!! It is a conditional offer, of course, but it is still good news and I am pretty
excited about it! I got it from Aston university, which is in Birmingham...I am still waiting to
hear from the others though. Fingers crossed! In the meantime, I have to be working
towards getting my degree, or else all this will just be a waste...which is a no-no,
considering the time I have spent in uni and all the money that has been paid-especially as
an international student.

Having said that, *clears throat*. I am going to Winter Wonderland this Sunday. Lool...I feel
really guilty because I have essays to submit; but it is one of my closest friend’s birthday
and that is all she is asking of me...plus I have always wanted to go to Winter Wonderland.
As such, I will be working extra time to get most of the work completed, so that I only feel
half guilty. :D Hehe.

Most of my friends have left or are leaving to Ghana for Christmas again, which makes me
really jealous, as I haven’t been back there since I entered uni in 2010. I have high hopes
that I will be there next year though-I miss the food and heat. I do have a couple of friends
staying behind and we plan to not stay indoors and have a boring Christmas, just because
it is cold outside...so far, I have a Christmas ball (what to wear?!) on the day I submit my
last coursework for the semester and dinner with friends on another day. I will also be with
my big brother and his family in Birmingham on Christmas day...and then off to Essex to
see my cousins for a couple of days. It should be fun.

Hope everyone gets to finish all their work on time so that we can all have a lovely
holiday!!

Until my next post...

Hello December!

It is December!! That means Christmas is near and the end of semester is fast
approaching. Whoohoo!! That also means that there are a thousand and one deadlines
waiting for me before I go on Christmas break. :(

I honestly cannot wait for this semester to be over so that I can catch a little break. It is like
the more I do my work, the more it piles up; and the fact that I am always sleepy does not
help matters. I am confident, though, that I will survive. *In dramatic movie voice*

Anyway, after all the stress last month, I finally found a place which is much better suited
to my needs and I have moved. It is about a 20 minutes bus journey to uni, which is good
and I only have to share the apartment with one person. This means less drama and less
noise-and this is exactly what I need at this point in my life. I also completed my personal
statement and application for the Graduate Diploma in Law and I have contacted my
referee; so that has been sorted. The only thing I am left to do is finish my coursework and
plan for Christmas; because I intend to have fun this Christmas. *dancing*

Oh...guess what happened to me last week! I dislocated my knee. It was so random! I was
sitting crossed legged on my bed eating some crisps when my knee cap just popped out
and I had to push it back. *shudder* I have been traumatised since then; but I have been
putting off a GP’s appointment till now...I really should go and see my GP...anyway, the
pain has greatly reduced now and I am not limping anymore, so I guess I am fine.Lol.

Wishing all those who have exams this month the best of luck and to the rest of us who
have coursework, keep going hard! It will all be over (and worth it) soon!

Byeee for now!!

Reading Week

It is such a relief that I have got reading week this week! The work was piling up too quickly and I was not too sure if I could keep up.  * wipes sweat *

So this week is meant for catching up on readings, seminar preparation work and starting assessments; and any wise person would make good use of it. I am currently out of London (at an unknown location :p) and I am loving it.  I have some peace and quiet away from friends and all the hustle and bustle of London to concentrate on what I have to do…and I am also enjoying the change in environment.

Halloween is here and unfortunately I have not made any plans to celebrate it; however, from what I have been seeing around, it looks like people are not taking it easy at all and are really enjoying themselves!! I am jealous!! Lol. Here is a picture from last year’s Halloween with friends though. It is a bit weird that the date is in the future…Oh; and that is me on the far left. I honestly do not know what I was supposed to be…I guess I was some kind of female monster…lol

Anyway, I have been thinking a lot about what I will be doing with my life after uni next year (apart from the GDL) and I think I would like to divert a little bit and do a couple of things that I have had an interest in over a long period of time…such as interior decoration. I know this is so different from Law and a lot of people have been questioning me about it; but I would like to do something totally different (and well, a bit more interesting) on the side. I am not giving up on Law though! I am just trying to add a little variety to my life. Hehe…so we will see how that goes.
I hope everyone else is having a fun-filled and scary Halloween! Looking forward to seeing the pics!

Stressed and dreading winter!

I have been so stressed these past couple of weeks! There has been a lot of work to do, in terms of uni and I am finding it a challenge to wrap my head around some topics; and to top it off, my housemates suddenly want to move out and so I am under pressure to find another place to rent in the next month...just the thing I was trying to avoid-Last minute pressure. So now I’ve got pages open on my laptop advertising places to rent and other pages with assignments waiting for me to do...Sometimes I am not sure if I can keep up with it all. *sigh*

Well, at least I am improving on my time management. Third year is not a joke. Lol!
It is getting cold again (I am DREADING winter!)...the scarves and boots are coming out again; and it has become a struggle to get out of bed for my early Thursday morning lectures and Sunday church...hehe but I have still got that 1st class or 2:1 on my mind.
I have also finally decided on my three choices for my GDL (Graduate Diploma in Law) - University of Birmingham, Aston University and Nottingham Law School. I chose institutions outside London because London is just too expensive, compared to other places so I figured I would save a bit of money...so hopefully, I do well this year and get into one of these Universities.
So far, nothing too exciting is happening or has happened; however I am actually looking forward to meeting new people when I move to whichever new place I find...and I will keep you updated on that.
I’m off to decide on whether to write my GDL personal statement first or do my Company Law seminar work.
Toodles!
